Since a lot of African-Americans were moving to Harlem , New York, they began building more housing in the area. Most of the African-American population, who were slaves in the south, escaped and began moving north to work for factories or where ever jobs were needed. Many of the Northerners had mixed emotions about the Great Migration.

The trials and tribulations of the Harlem Renaissance The Harlem Renaissance, also referred to as The New Negro, was a period of newfound artistic and social freedom for African Americans beginning in the early asses and ending in the early asses. The Harlem Renaissance opened doors for African Americans after the great migration, and paved the way for many opportunities.
