He is currently an assistant professor of Computer Technology at Amasya University. Although online distance education provides adult learners with an opportunity for life-long learning, there are still factors challenging them to engage in educational processes. The purpose of this study is to explore the challenges faced by adult learners in online distance education through the analysis of the relevant literature. The findings reveal that adult learners have challenges related to internal, external, and program-related factors indicating the interrelated nature of these challenges. The findings also show that the challenges experienced by adult learners vary depending on their age, gender, knowledge and skills as well as the context in which they study.

Employer Perceptions of Online Degrees: A Literature Review

With the goal of providing relevant information to educators and administrators, the What Works Clearinghouse WWC conducted a rapid evidence review to report on what works in distance learning programming. The process began with a call for nominations of rigorous research that evaluates the effectiveness of distance learning practices or products. Publication of this citation list is provided to the field as a way to highlight the breadth of research available. If the studies have been reviewed by the WWC, then a link to the study review page is included.

Adult educators have long sought to encourage greater participation in, and more equitable access to, educational opportunities for adult learners. This literature review examines how distance education can help adult educators address issues of equity and participation, especially in rural areas with restricted educational opportunities. In Pennsylvania, for example, rural residents tend to have lower educational attainment and more limited access to adult education services than their urban counterparts. Teachers will also benefit from the useful information gathered on emerging practices and the history of distance education and distance learning provided by this resource. In addition, those who are interested in adult basic education distance education, especially for rural areas in the United States, will find this summary of the research very helpful.
